Student FAQ — Haste Slowly Driving School

1. What will my first driving lesson be like?

Your first lesson is designed to help you feel comfortable and in control. We start slowly, give you time to settle in, and guide you through each step at a pace that feels right for you. There is no pressure and no rushing. You learn in a calm, supportive environment where confidence grows naturally.

2. I’m worried I won’t know where to look. Is that normal?

Yes, it is completely normal. Every new driver feels unsure about where to focus at first. With guidance, you quickly learn how to notice the right things at the right time. As your comfort grows, your eyes begin to move in a way that keeps you safe and aware.

3. Why do beginners sometimes drift in their lane?

This usually happens when you are tense or trying too hard to be perfect. Once you relax and get used to how the car responds, staying centered becomes much easier. Smooth driving comes from comfort, not pressure.

4. Why does braking feel jerky when I’m new?

Braking takes practice because your timing is still developing. As you gain experience, you start noticing things earlier and your braking becomes smoother and more controlled. It is one of the first skills that improves quickly.

5. How long does it take to become a safe driver?

You will feel safe and capable much sooner than you might expect. Your lessons and supervised practice help you reach a strong beginner level where you can handle everyday driving with confidence. From there, your judgment and smoothness improve quickly over your first few hundred kilometers and continue to grow over your first couple of years as you experience more real world situations. Safe driving is something you build steadily, and we guide you through every stage.

6. How will I know when I’m ready to turn in traffic?

You will know because turning will no longer feel rushed or stressful. We build your skills gradually so that by the time you reach busier intersections, you already feel prepared and confident making decisions.

7. Why does changing lanes feel scary at first?

Changing lanes is one of the first moments where you move sideways instead of straight, so it naturally feels unfamiliar. With practice and clear guidance, it becomes one of the most comfortable parts of driving.

8. Why does reversing feel so awkward?

Reversing feels unusual for everyone at the beginning. Once you learn how to position yourself and take your time, it becomes much easier. Many students end up enjoying parking practice once they get the hang of it.

9. Why does my instructor ask me to talk while I’m driving?

Talking through what you see and what you are planning helps you stay focused and aware. It is a simple technique that helps new drivers learn faster and feel more in control of the road around them.

10. How do I know if I’m improving?

You will notice you are more relaxed, you react sooner, and you need fewer reminders. Progress shows up in small, steady steps. Your driving begins to feel smoother, calmer, and more predictable. That is how you know you are growing as a driver.
